Her paternal grandparents were William Greenberry Jacks and Delilah Young; her maternal grandparents were Hail Maxey and Dicey Craighead. She had seven brothers and five sisters, named Cass Anderson, Sam, Greenbury Hale, Young, Issac Marion, John A., Doctor Franklin, Lucy Ann, Mary Ann, Delila Jane, Emily Frances and Martha Karen Paralee. She was the sixth youngest of the thirteen children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James Monore, Archibald E., Margaret, Alabama, Alice Blanche and Melissa Eugenia.
