John A. was born about 1835 in Clarke Co., GA.1 John A.'s father was John Jacks and his mother was Jane Maxey. His paternal grandparents were William Greenberry Jacks and Delilah Young; his maternal grandparents were Hail Maxey and Dicey Craighead. He had six brothers and six sisters, named Cass Anderson, Sam, Greenbury Hale, Young, Issac Marion, Doctor Franklin, Lucy Ann, Mary Ann, Delila Jane, Sarah Elvira, Emily Frances and Martha Karen Paralee. He was the third youngest of the thirteen children. He had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named James Monore, Archibald E., Margaret, Alabama, Alice Blanche and Melissa Eugenia.
