Mathew Jones was born on August 22nd, 1845 in Heflin, Cleburne Co., AL.1 Mathew Jones' father was William Parson Evans and his mother was Elizabeth Ann McEwen. His paternal grandparents were John Evans and Elizabeth McCurry; his maternal grandparents were Robert Bort McEwen and Rachel Hawkins. He had thirteen brothers and two sisters, named Alexander Thomas, John Murroe, James Kirkham, William Henry, Robert, Greenbury Garrett, John, Hiram Martin, Isaac, Asbury, Wesley, Matthew Jones, Joseph M., Margaret and Elizabeth. He was the third youngest of the sixteen children. He died at the age of 80 on February 11th, 1926 in Heflin, Cleburne Co., AL.1 General Notes

Died after he accidently ate a piece of cedar that was mixed with popcorn
that came off a Christmas tree. The cedar worked its way down into his
lungs and killed him several months after Christmas.
