His paternal grandparents were Asa Oliver Culver and Nancy Jane Pody; his maternal grandparents were William Bridges and Delila Jane Jacks. He had nine brothers and five sisters, named Alvin Perry, Andrew Franklin, William G., Edward D., Isom Edward, Lesslie N., Ira L., Ernest Hanes N., Homer N., Mary Eck, Mary Jane, Emma Beulah, Lula A. and Ruby May.
