Redden Haywood was born on May 25th, 1830 in Bertie Co., NC.1 Redden Haywood's father was Starkey Castellaw and his mother was Dicey Hoggard. His paternal grandparents were James C. Castellaw and Elizabeth Cobb; his maternal grandparents were Elisha Hoggard and Amelia White. He had a brother and eight sisters, named Larry, Mary, Marthena Jane, Happy Jane, Christian, Harriet, Barbry E., Caroline and Amelia Elizabeth. He was the fifth oldest of the ten children. He died at the age of 79 on August 30th, 1909 in Bertie Co., NC. He was buried in Mizell-Asbell Cemetery.1 1 General Notes
