Henry Sothill , Sir Knight 
Henry was born about 1338 in Soothill, West RIde Yorkshire, England. Henry's father was Henry Sothill , Sir and his mother was Joan FitzWilliam. His paternal grandfather was Henry Sothill , Sir; his maternal grandparents were William FitzWilliam , of Emley & Sprotborough,Sir and Isabel (Maude) Deincourt. He was an only child. According to Douglas Richardson, Henry's parents (Henry & Joan) had seven sons, the 1st and the last were both named Henry. This is usually done if the first by that name died fairly young, at least before having children. Thus I suppose that this Henry might be the seventh son, given his late birth date and his having children.

Sir Henry de Soothill, of Soothill, co. Yorks. He received a grant from his father in 1363 ë to Henry his son, knight, of all his manor of Soothill etc and also of a field [campus] called Gepfeld' Cowehaye and le Rydying' in return for annual rent for the remainder of the grantors life ë. He succeeded his father soon after this grant, as in 1366 an attorney (Richard de Rogelay) was appointed to deliver seisin of the manor of Soothill to ëSir Henry de Sowtyll, knight`. He married Denise (or Dionisia). He died in or before 49 Edw III (1375/6), when his widow Denise had remarried Sir Thomas de Markenfield. She died after 1385/6, but before a regrant of the manor of Soothill in 1409/10 (see below). [John Ravilious, SGM, 6 Nov 2002]
