John 2nd Baron was born on August 1st, 1292 in Hockering, Mitford, Norfolk, England. John 2nd Baron's father was William 1st Baron Marshal , of Hockering, Sir and his mother was Christian FitzWalter. His paternal grandparents were John Marshal , of Hockering, Marshal of Ireland and Hawise; his maternal grandparents were Robert 1st Baron FitzWalter , Sir and Devorguilla de Burgh. He had two sisters named Hawise and Ellen (Isabel). He was the oldest of the three children. He died at the age of 24 on August 12th, 1316 in (dsp).General Notes
BARONY OF MARSHAL (II)
JOHN MARSHAL, LORD MARSHAL, son and heir, born 1 August 1292, was probably the John Marshal who, in April 1314, was setting out for Scotland on the King's business in the retinue of Queen Isabel. He was summoned for service against the Scots in February 1315/6; subsequently the muster was postponed to 10 August, only 2 days before his death. He married, before 6 December 1311, Ela, whose parentage is not known. He died s.p., 12 August 1316. His widow married, 2ndly, Robert FITZPAYN [LORD FITZPAYN], and died 16 February 1355/6.
His heirs were his two sisters, between whom, according to modern doctrine, the Barony fell into abeyance: (i) Denise, who died s.p., 14 September 1316; and (ii) Hawise, who married Robert (de Morley), Lord Morley. On the death of Denise in 1316 Hawise became, according to modern doctrine, de jure BARONESS MARSHAL. See MORLEY, with which Barony that of Marshal became united.
