Martha Barbara's father was August Carl Jacob and her mother was Elisabeth Hohl. Her paternal grandparents were William Jacob and Katherine; her maternal grandparents were John Nicholas Hohl and Anna Marie Frueh. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named John Alfred, Carl August Jr, Christian Theodore, Frederick Louis, George William, Henry Albert, Herman Hugo, Oscar Benjamin, Peter Ernest, Amelia Ruth, Catherine Anna and Freda Elizabeth.-
