Her paternal grandparents were William Jacob and Katherine; her maternal grandparents were John Nicholas Hohl and Anna Marie Frueh. She had nine brothers and three sisters, named John Alfred, Carl August Jr, Christian Theodore, Frederick Louis, George William, Henry Albert, Herman Hugo, Oscar Benjamin, Peter Ernest, Catherine Anna, Freda Elizabeth and Martha Barbara.-
