Godfrey "the Captive" was born in 0911. Godfrey "the Captive"'s father was Count/ Gonzalon OF BIDGAU and his mother was Oda OF METZ Uda. His paternal grandparents were Count Wigeric Of Luxemburg VON AACHEN and Kunigunde DE FRANCIA; his maternal grandparents were Count Gerhard II Of Nieder Lahngau VON METZ and Uda OF SAXONY. He had a brother and a sister, named Heinrich DE VERDUN and Gerberga. He died at the age of 94 in 1005.General Notes
Credited with the first unification of the country, convertedthe Danes to Christianity, and conquered Norway. After hisBaptism his fathers pagan tomb was transformed into a Christianplace of worship.
Introduced Christianity into Denmark, he had the famous Jellingrune stone erected in his parent memory. He was fatally woundedduring a rebellion by his son and successor, Sveng I.
They had two sons and three daughters, named Godfrey, Gonzelon I "The Grand", Adelheid, Ermentrude and Regilla.
