James, known as The Black Knight Of Lorn, was born about 1394 in Innermeath,Argyllshire,Scotland. The Black Knight Of Lorn's father was Lord John Stewart Of Lorn & Innermeath and his mother was Heiress Isabel MacDougal Of Lorn. His paternal grandparents were Lord Robert Stewart Of Innermeath and Margaret; his maternal grandparents were Laird, Chief Eoin (John) MacDougal Of Clan Dougall and Joanna Mac Isaac. He had a brother and two sisters, named Robert, Christian and Isabel. He was the youngest of the four children. He died after 1451 in Captured at sea by Flemish & put to death.General Notes
Sir James Stewart, "The Black Knight of Lorn"; married (papal dispensation 21 Sep 1439) Jane/Joan Beafort, Queen Dowager of Scotland (d 15 June 1445), daughter of John, Marquess of Dorset and Earl of Somerset (son of John of Gaunt and grandson of Edward III), and widow of James I, and was captured at sea by a Flemish ship and put to death.
