William Shanks 
William was born in 1837 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 William's father was John S. Shanks and his mother was Nancy. His paternal grandfather was John Shanks. He had four brothers and four sisters, named Jacob, James, Henry, George, Susan, Jane, Emeline and Sarah. He was the oldest of the nine children.
