George Shanks 
George was born in 1858 in ,Hawkins, Tennessee.1 George's father was John S. Shanks and his mother was Nancy. His paternal grandfather was John Shanks. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, Jacob, James, Henry, Susan, Jane, Emeline and Sarah. He was the second youngest of the nine children.
