Catherine Ann was born on January 8th, 1819 in ,Of Sullivan, Tennessee.1 Catherine Ann's father was Philip Smith Hale and her mother was Elizabeth Bachman. Her paternal grandparents were Philip Heale and Catherine Douglas; her maternal grandparents were Nathan Bachman and Ann Peoples. She had three brothers and nine sisters, named Nathan Bachman, Philip Smith, William Douglas, Eliza Jane, Julia Ann, Sarah Amanda, Matilda Antoinette, Mary Bachman, Frances Louisa, Adelaide, Cornelia Josephine and Martha Ellen. She was the oldest of the thirteen children.-
