Lewis Combest 
Lewis was born on July 7th, 1875 in Russell County, Kentucky.1 Lewis' father was John Wiley Combest and his mother was Susan E. Gosser. His paternal grandparents were Wiley Combest and Sarah Hammond; his maternal grandparents were George Washington Gosser and Jamina Roy. He had two brothers and four sisters, named Josiah, Brown, Sarah Jane, Pharoba, Jemina and Leona. He was the youngest of the seven children. He died at the age of 84 on January 3rd, 1960 in Valdasta, Texas (Stoney Point Cemetery).1 General Notes

"Samuel Combest and His Descendants" book
In a letter written to Dale Combest of Utica, Kansas, dated March 7,
1939, Valdasta, Texas, Lewis tells of his coming to Texas from Casey
County, Kentucky, arriving on 7 May, 1887, exactly two months to the day
before his twelfth birthday, July 7. Dale and Lewis had been
corresponding about their relationship to the Combest family. In his
letter he states, "I am most satisfied we are connection as all are kind
I know of by name. There is a bunch of Combest in Chorpus Christa (sic),
Texas that came there in 1845 but the young ones don't know where from.
There are two things they most like and that is the fiddle and play and
most of them have a talent to survey. I met one of of the Corpus Christa
(sic) Combest boys, he was surveying for the state of Texas and maping
(sic) out the country and they have enough Irish to speak what they think
about anything or what is called 'speaking plain.'"
Lewis Combest owned much land, had a store, and was the postmaster at
Valdasta, Texas
