Henry Cleveland was born in 1886. Henry Cleveland's father was John Jacob Stroup and his mother was Sarah Jane Coats. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Jackson Stroup and Elizabeth Myers; his maternal grandparents were George W. Coats and Sarah. He had four brothers and two sisters, and also a sibling of unknown gender, named James, Bert Oliver, Enos Eldridge, A. J. Holt, Elizabeth, Mary Ellen and Stroup. He was the third oldest of the eight children.-
