William was born in 1162 in of Ferrers, Derbyshire, England.1 William's father was William de Ferrers and his mother was Sibyl de Braose. His paternal grandparents were Robert (William) de Ferrers and Margaret Peverel; his maternal grandparents were William de Braose II Lord Bramber and Bertha of Gloucester de Pîtres.
