Winny was born about 1804 in TN.¹   Winny's father was Joshua Grinder and her mother was Francis ?.  Her paternal grandparents were John Grinder and Mary ?. She had four brothers and four sisters, named Robert, James, Joshua, Nicholas, Parthenia, Sally, Mahuldah and Barbara S.. She had three half-brothers and two half-sisters, named Mathias, Reuben, John, Susan and Catherine.
