Nelly was born about 1778 in Surry Co, NC.1   Nelly's father was John Grinder and her mother was Mary ?. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Robert Evans, Katherine (Katy), Mary (Polly), Elizabeth and Betsey.  She was the youngest of the seven children.  She died about 1818 in Stokes Co, NC.1
