Betsey was born about 1774 in Surry Co, NC.1   Betsey's father was John Grinder and her mother was Mary ?. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Joshua, Robert Evans, Katherine (Katy), Mary (Polly), Elizabeth and Nelly.  She was the second youngest of the seven children.
