Here is a copy of a letter Malinda wrote in 1894 Cholame, San Suis ---- Calif. March 30, 1894 Dear Mother, I have written to you twice and you have not answered either of my letter. What is the reason. I would like to see you powerful well I have been sick in bed for one weeks, Lost a false conception, am feeling better now. My Cook read in his paper that Mr. Jeff Bell, of Texas is dead. It did not say what part of Texas he died in. We have had very little rain and the feed is all dried up but this afternoon we had a shower and hope to have mre soon. Mr. Cook says we shall have all the rain we need before the 5th of next month. If we get plenty of rain with in a few days most of the feed will be saved, also the grain. Write soon and tell me how you like Texas. Does it agree with you and do you intend making it your home? Write about all the rest of them, telling how they and all about them. I haven't much to tell you but if you will answer soon I will try to give you a longer letter next time. I must tell you though that the children are learning fast. Will send you some of their writing also send some flowers. I have had to keep Nancy out of school while I have been in bed, but she writes at home, so wont lose very much. With much love to yourself and all. Mrs. M. Brown ( This letter is not in Malinda's handwriting like the following letter was.)
