Robert Andrew was born in 1828. Robert Andrew's father was Joseph Mahaffey and his mother was Mary Elizabeth Allman. His paternal grandparents were Joseph Mahaffey and Elizabeth Cathey. He had three brothers and a sister, named William Rufus, Doctor Franklin, Joseph S and Margaret L. He was the oldest of the five children.-
