Laura A was born in 1858 in Cameron, Milam, Texas. Laura A's father was William Vance Hefley and her mother was Jane Emily Renshaw. Her paternal grandparents were Martin Hefley and Clarissa Ann Mahaffey; her maternal grandparents were John Renshaw and Martha Walkup. She had seven brothers and six sisters, named John M, Joseph W, Lafayette J, James Samuel, William Tell, Jefferson Davis, Henry B, Martha M, Harriet E, Mollie R, Kathleene, Sue and Emma Vance. She was the seventh youngest of the fourteen children.-
