Hannah was born on August 23rd, 1822 in , Washington, OH.1 Hannah's father was David Galland and her mother was Phebe Gandy. Her paternal grandparents were Matthew Galland and Hannah Fenno; her maternal grandparents were Henry Harris Gandy and Tamson Garrison. She had three brothers and five sisters, named Artemes N, Isaac, Abijah, Mary, Matilda, Tamson, Sarah and Elizabeth. She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.-
