John FitzGeoffrey was born about 1208 in Shere, Surrey, England.1   John FitzGeoffrey's father was Geoffrey FitzPiers Earl of Essex and his mother was Aveline de Clare.  His paternal grandparents were Pierre de Mandeville Earl of Essex and Maud de Mandeville; his maternal grandparents were Roger de Clare the Good Earl of Hertford and Matilda de St. Hilary du Harcourt. He had a half-brother and a half-sister, named John Fitz and Maude FitzGeoffrey de Mandeville.  He died on November 23rd, 1258.1
