Rainald III was born about 1090.1 Rainald III's father was Etiene "Tete-hardi" de Macon and his mother was Beatrix (de Macon). His paternal grandparents were Guillaume I "le Grand" Ct of Burgundy and Etienette de Longwy. He had a brother named Guillaume III de Macon. He was the older of the two children.
