Sarah L. was born on November 10th, 1874 in Colleton County, SC.1 Sarah L.'s father was Benjamin Gaines Benton and her mother was Laura Ann Mathis. Her paternal grandparents were John Benton and Miss DeWitt. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William Oliver, Baynard Benjamin, Rosa Alice and Laura Lilla. She had a half-brother and five half-sisters, named Henry M., Sintha E., Elinor Naomi, Martha L., Jane A. S. and Elvira. She died at the age of 103 on March 18th, 1978.1 -
