Victoria was born in 1847. Victoria's father was John Thurston and her mother was Louisa F. Poor. Her paternal grandparents were John Thurston and Jane Page; her maternal grandparents were Edward H. Poor and Martha A. Carden. She had five brothers and four sisters, named William H., Edward W., Isaac Newton, John Dow, Thomas I., Virginia, Elizabeth, Louisa A. and Margaret J.. She was the second youngest of the ten children.-
