Pleasant was born on April 25th, 1733 in Hanover Co., Virginia.1 Pleasant's father was Thomas Stanley and his mother was Elizabeth Crew. His paternal grandparents were Thomas Stanley and Rebecca ?; his maternal grandparents were John Crew and Sarah Gately. He had five brothers and three sisters, named Zachariah, Joseph, John, Nathan, Thomas, Mary, Anne and Sarah. He had a half-brother and two half-sisters, named Maddox, Elizabeth and Margery.
