Samuel Richard was born on October 31st, 1812 in Amelia Co., Virginia. Samuel Richard's father was Austin Seay and his mother was Sally Marshall Booker. His paternal grandparents were Moses Seay and Elizabeth Luck; his maternal grandparents were Efford Booker and Mary Hudson. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Richard Terrell, Efford Booker, George Nichola, William Eldridge, Austin Selden, Junius Hardin, Louisa Marshall and Sally Amelia Virginia. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children. He had four half-sisters named Juliana Harper, Augusta Tazwell, Evelin Elizabeth and Elvira Cornelia.-
