Richard Terrell was born on January 25th, 1802 in Amelia Co., Virginia. Richard Terrell's father was Austin Seay and his mother was Sally Marshall Booker. His paternal grandparents were Moses Seay and Elizabeth Luck; his maternal grandparents were Efford Booker and Mary Hudson. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Efford Booker, George Nichola, William Eldridge, Samuel Richard, Austin Selden, Junius Hardin, Louisa Marshall and Sally Amelia Virginia. He was the oldest of the nine children. He had four half-sisters named Juliana Harper, Augusta Tazwell, Evelin Elizabeth and Elvira Cornelia.-
