Augustine was born on March 28th, 1834 in Madison Co., Virginia.  Augustine's father was Augustine Hawkins and his mother was Matilda Wilhoit Finks. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Andrew Jackson, Alpheus Finks, Abraham, Paschal Walker, Harriet J. House, Matilda Ann, Nancy Eve, Sarah Elizabeth and Damaris.  He was the fourth oldest of the ten children.  He died at the age of 82 on September 2nd, 1916 in Blue Creek Township, Adams Co., Indiana.
