William I. Chappell 
William I. was born about 1834 in Prince Edward Co., Virginia. William I.'s father was Richard Granville Chappell and his mother was Mary E. Bell. His paternal grandparents were John Chappell and Elizabeth Townes Craddock; his maternal grandfather was ? Bell. He had seven brothers and two sisters, named Richard G., John A., David A., Henry C., Washington B., Thomas, Charles, Sally and Bettie. He was the second oldest of the ten children.-
