Edward was born on April 9th, 1671 in "Barford", Lancaster Co., VA. Edward's father was Thomas Carter and his mother was Katherine Dale. His paternal grandparents were William Carter and Jane Myles; his maternal grandparents were Edward Dale and Diana Skipwith. He had nine brothers and three sisters, named Thomas, John, Henry Skipwith, Nicholas, William, Daniel, James, Peter, Joseph, Diana, Katherine and Elizabeth. He died in Lancaster Co., VA.-
