Ann Cary was born in 1833. Ann Cary's father was John Coles Carter and her mother was Ellen Monroe Wayles Bankhead. Her paternal grandparents were Robert Hill Carter and Mary Eliza Coles. She had two brothers named Robert Hill and John Coles. She was the oldest of the three children. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Charles Edward, Blenheim, Rebecca Isaette, Ellen Bankhead, Shirley and Sarah Coles Stevenson.-
