Mary was born in 1848 in Coosa Co., AL. Mary's father was James M. Butler and her mother was Nancy Taylor. Her paternal grandparents were Christopher Butler and Mehala Cole; her maternal grandfather was John Taylor. She had two brothers and two sisters, named William, John, Martha and Elizabeth. She was the youngest of the five children.-
