Martha Jane was born in 1832 in Elbert Co., GA. Martha Jane's father was James B. Butler and her mother was Elizabeth Frances Hansard. Her paternal grandparents were James McGehee Butler and Sarah Christopher. She had three brothers and four sisters, named William, James, John Singleton, Permelia Caroline, Margaret, Rhoda Rebekar and Nancy S.. She was the third oldest of the eight children.-
