Stephen was born in 1831 in Marden, Kent.  Stephen's father was David STANLEY and his mother was Ann LAMBERT.  His paternal grandparents were Zebulon STANLEY and Ann SHAW; his maternal grandmother was Elizabeth. He had four brothers and four sisters, named William, David, George Lambert, Charles, Rebecca, Ann Bowlden, Harriet and Sarah Boulden.  He was the second youngest of the nine children.  He died at the age of 53 in October 1884 in Marden, Kent.  He was buried on October 13th, 1884 in Marden, Kent.
