Harriet was born in 1820 in Marden, Kent.  Harriet's father was David STANLEY and her mother was Ann LAMBERT.  Her paternal grandparents were Zebulon STANLEY and Ann SHAW; her maternal grandmother was Elizabeth. She had five brothers and three sisters, named William, David, George Lambert, Stephen, Charles, Rebecca, Ann Bowlden and Sarah Boulden.  She was the fourth oldest of the nine children.
