Charles was born in 1859 in Marden, Kent.  Charles' father was Charles STANLEY and his mother was Sarah.  His paternal grandparents were David STANLEY and Ann LAMBERT. He had three brothers and two sisters, named Frank E, Frederick William, Thomas David, Sarah Rose and Annie.  He was the oldest of the six children.
