Henry was born in 1846 in Penshurst, Kent.  Henry's father was William MARTIN and his mother was Mary Ann.  His paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann SIMMONDS. He had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas, Richard, Mary Ann, Sarah and Maria.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
