George was born in 1853 in Hadlow, Kent.  George's father was John MARTIN and his mother was Jane.  His paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann. He had two brothers and four sisters, named John, Thomas Richard, Mary Ann, Frances, Eliza and Ann S.  He was the second youngest of the seven children.
