Frances was born in 1847 in Capel, Kent.  Frances' father was John MARTIN and her mother was Jane.  Her paternal grandparents were John MARTIN and Ann. She had three brothers and three sisters, named John, Thomas Richard, George, Mary Ann, Eliza and Ann S.  She was the fourth oldest of the seven children.
