Hendel was born in December 1862.  Hendel's father was Abram Lewin (Layb) Pieniek and her mother was Szrenia Warszawa.  Her paternal grandparents were Tobiasz Pieniek and Ester Bezbrody; her maternal grandparents are Jakob Warszawa and Bayla. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Tobiasz Markus (Mordko), Jakob Jozef, Ber, Hena Gitel and Chana Sura.  She was the youngest of the six children.  She died at 2 months old on February 22nd, 1863.
