Chana Sura was born on February 9th, 1858 in Golub-Dobrzyn, Poland.1   Chana Sura's father was Abram Lewin (Layb) Pieniek and her mother was Szrenia Warszawa.  Her paternal grandparents were Tobiasz Pieniek and Ester Bezbrody; her maternal grandparents are Jakob Warszawa and Bayla. She had three brothers and two sisters, named Tobiasz Markus (Mordko), Jakob Jozef, Ber, Hena Gitel and Hendel.  She was the fourth oldest of the six children.
