Ber was born on January 21st, 1860 in Golub-Dobrzyn, Poland.1   Ber's father was Abram Lewin (Layb) Pieniek and his mother was Szrenia Warszawa.  His paternal grandparents were Tobiasz Pieniek and Ester Bezbrody; his maternal grandparents are Jakob Warszawa and Bayla. He had two brothers and three sisters, named Tobiasz Markus (Mordko), Jakob Jozef, Hena Gitel, Chana Sura and Hendel.  He was the fifth oldest of the six children.
