Henderson (Hence) Virden

Henderson, known as Hence, was born on March 2nd, 1830 in Missouri. Hence's father was Hugh Anderson (Virgin) Virden and his mother was Elizabeth Benefield. His paternal grandparents were William Virgin and Sophia Unknown; his maternal grandparents were Willis Benefield and Milley Forrest. He had five brothers and two sisters, named John, Hugh, Thomas, Felix, James, Lousia and Matilda. He was the second oldest of the eight children. He died at the age of 82 on May 2nd, 1912 in Oklahoma. He was buried in Haskell, OK.

General Notes
- Served in the Civil War. Contrary to family tradition, Henderson did not fight in the Battle of Pea Ridge and the battle most certainly was not fought on his property. The battle was fought 1 yr prior to his enlistment and was fought in a different part of the state. Muster rolls show he enlisted as a private and left as a private. He initially enlisted with the 3rd Arkansas, along with his brother Felix, and was apparently later transferred to the 4th where he could have seen action in Gettysburgh, but this is not verified.

Hence's first family

Hence and Dicey were married on October 31st, 1851 in Pope Co., AK. They had two sons and five daughters, named John, Wiley, Mary, Lousia, Lydia, Ellen and Eveline.

Hence and Rose were married on May 29th, 1888.
