Richard was born in 1599 in Eckington, Derbyshire, England.  Richard's father was William STANIFORTH and his mother was Mary (UNKNOWN).  His paternal grandparents were William STANIFORTH and Joane MYCOCKE.  He had two brothers and six sisters, named John, Thomas, Dorothy, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth, Grace and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
