John was born in 1601 in Eckington, Derbyshire, England.  John's father was William STANIFORTH and his mother was Mary (UNKNOWN).  His paternal grandparents were William STANIFORTH and Joane MYCOCKE.  He had two brothers and six sisters, named Richard, Thomas, Dorothy, Anne, Mary, Elizabeth, Grace and Margaret.  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
