William was born in 1573 in Eckington, Derbyshire, England.  William's father was William STANIFORTH and his mother was Joane MYCOCKE.  His paternal grandparents were Thomas STANIFORTH and Agnes (UNKNOWN).  He had five brothers and three sisters, named Godfrey, Henry, John, Thomas, Robert, Marjorie, Dorothy and Joan.  He was the oldest of the nine children.
